T-Mobile Readies Its Next Android Phone

Not to be outdone by the news that Verizon Wireless plans to launch an Android-based smartphone later this year, T-Mobile has announced plans for its second Android device. But details on the upcoming smartphone were scarce.
In a statement released today, T-Mobile said the company "is planning to offer the follow-on device to the T-Mobile G1 early this summer. We’ll have more details to share on this exciting Android-powered device later this month." In effect, the company didn't tell us a whole lot, as the follow-up to the G1 has been rumored for a while.
T-Mobile did note that there are currently 4,900 apps available in the Android Market. That's a big boost from the handful of apps that were in there when the T-Mobile G1 launched last fall. The company also said it has sold more than 1 million G1 handsets in the U.S. since the phone launched.
