Are you one of the millions of people who have become addicted to Twitter? Well, you don't have to leave this micro-blogging service behind when you're away from your computer. Here are several applications that allow you to access Twitter from your iPhone, so you can tell the world what you've been up to, in 140 characters or less, no matter where you are.
Tweetie
This $2.99 application offers most of the Twitter features that got you hooked on Twitter in the first place. It can handle multiple Twitter accounts; lets you post new tweets and retweets; allows you to follow and unfollow people; and lets you reply directly to tweets and send direct messages. It also lets you view your timeline, replies, direct messages, and followers, and post links and upload photos.
Twitterfon
Twitterfon is designed to offer about 80 percent of Twitter's functionality in a simple-to-use, free iPhone app. It lets you post tweets, view friends, read replies, send and receive direct messages, upload photos, and search tweets. It does not, however, support multiple accounts or allow you to change themes.
Twitterlator Pro
This full-featured Twitter app will cost you $4.99, but it packs in plenty of functionality. Twitterlator Pro supports multiple Twitter accounts; lets you adjust the interface; allows you to compose tweets in landscape mode; and supports GPS so you can post a map of your location. It also includes advanced searching features, and a built-in browser to view links. A free version of Twitterlator, which lacks some of the advanced features, such as support for multiple accounts, is available.
Twitterific Free
This free application offers a simple way to read and post tweets. It displays posts, replies, and direct messages, and lets you post messages, photos, and location updates. It does not include search features, and is ad-supported, so you'll see periodic ads while using it. Twitterific Premium, a $9.99 app, does not show ads, and also offers users an extra theme.
Tweeter
If you're more of a giver than a receiver, Tweeter may be the mobile Twitter app for you. This free app is designed for posting tweets only. You can't read what your friends have to say, or, well, do much of anything else. But if all you want is a quick, free way to get your Twitter message out, Tweeter could be the ticket. This app was developed by the author of NatsuLion, a Twitter client that is available for both the iPhone and Mac OS computers.
